MATTERS OF THE HEART

heart health

It is very important for us to start to open up to a more right brained, creative, poetic point of view. Our American culture is so focused, so results oriented, that we as a nation are paying for it in levels of stress and stress related illness.

The medical profession is not designed to deal with this arena. And so what should be the first line of defense is non existent.

The phrase “he died of a broken heart” is well-known and especially prescient for me. My Dad died at the age of 59 of a heart attack. The day before, he had said to my Mom, “Gosh I didn’t know life could be this much fun.” He had just retired from a very stressful career as a postal supervisor in New York City. He died of a broken heart.

Metaphorically, what is going on with your heart? Ask yourself “what does my heart need”? How are you nourishing your heart? Are you actively engaged in loving and being loved? What happens to your body when you read this? Are you open to life, or do you live in fear and keep your self guarded from possible injury?
